Cadet girl golfers fall to Indians, beat Decorah, win triangular

CRESCO - On a beautiful day for a golf meet on April 23 at home, the Crestwood girls’ team competed well but came up short as Waukon edged the Cadets by a score of 219-220.
Carley Sweeney of Waukon earned medalist honors with a round of 51. Cadets Ashley Voves and Isabella Lehmkuhl tied for runner-up honors at 52.
“We had pretty good results for our first time on a course,” Cadet Girls’ Coach Jason Sorenson said. “However, we always focus on the process of one shot at a time with a good attitude and visualization.  We can always control that part of golf.  I think they had a lot of fun playing golf in the sun.”
Waukon 219: Carley Sweeney 51, Kylee Hager 53, Emily Clark 53, Emily Kolsrud 62.
Crestwood 220: Isabella Lehmkuhl 52, Ashley Voves 52, Hailey Panos 57, Megan Ferrie 59.

Crestwood’s Isabella Lehmkuhl was medalist for the meet with a score of 50.
“We have had two very close meets,” Sorenson said. “The girls are starting to realize little areas throughout their games that can help improve the team score.  I am looking forward to their continued growth and improvement.”

Crestwood 222: Isabella Lehmkuhl 50, Ashley Voves 55, Hailey Panos 58, Megan Ferrie 59, Kryslynn Ruppert 62.

Cadets beat Decorah
Facing Decorah in a home dual meet on an extremely windy day on Friday, April 27, the Cadet girls’ team notched the win, 201-237.
“We had great scores on our home course, but I’m more proud of the patience we played with today,” Sorenson said. “If we did have a bad hole, the girls did a great job of coming back on the next hole with a great competitive attitude.”
Ashley Voves and Isabella Lehmkuhl tied for medalist honors for the Cadets with a score of 47.
Cadets: Ashley Voves 47, Isabella Lehmkuhl 47, Kryslynn Ruppert 53, Hailey Panos 54, Megan Ferrie 55, Karissa Stika 69.
Decorah: Ann Meirick 56, Audrey Casterton 58, Lily McGohan 61, Tori Hines 62.

Decorah Tourney
The Crestwood girls’ team nabbed first place at the Decorah Tournament on April 28 with an 18-hole team score of 391. Waukon was second at 394 and Decorah placed third at 434.
Isabella Lehmkuhl earned medalist honors with a score of 94 (50-44). Other Cadet scores included: Hailey Panos 95 (51-44), Kyrslynn Ruppert 98 (51-47), Megan Ferrie 104 (49-55), Karissa Stika 128 (65-63).
“This was a great effort and focus for 18 holes,” Coach Sorenson said. “I was very pleased with the composure that the girls played with. Golf is best played with a level head and the ability to focus on one thing at a time. I think the girls are understanding the importance of avoiding penalty strokes.”
