DECORAH - Taking on several stout teams on Monday, April 17 at the Decorah Invitational, the Crestwood boys’ track team battled hard before taking sixth overall with 57 points.
Competing at Waukon Friday, April 21, the Cadet boys’ team placed fourth overall with 92 points.
Decorah Invite
The Cadets competed hard last Monday at the Decorah Invite en route to placing sixth with 57 points. Dubuque Wahlert won the team title with 181 points while Decorah was second with 117.
Spencer Cuvelier won the discus event with a toss of 159 feet, 2 inches. Michael Mashek was second in the 1600 in 4:55.08.
Chris Guest took third in the 110 hurdles (16.30) and third in the 400 hurdles (59.14). The 4x200 team of Austin McAllister, Clayton Ollendieck, Reece Wilson and Cuvelier placed third in 1:38.53.
“We faced some tough competition, and we didn’t run real well overall,” Cadet Coach Chris Lentz said. “We had Monday off from school, and we ran like we had a three-day break. Overall, we were a little lethargic and not quite as crisp as we needed to be.
“On the plus side, Michael Mashek ran well in the mile and Spencer Cuvelier threw the discus OK. Chris Guest did a nice job in the (110 and 400) hurdles. Our 4x400 team also ran well. We still need to work on our handoffs, which could help us gain a second or two. We need to keep working hard and getting after it,” the coach said.
