Crestwood cross country teams run well at Charles City

CHARLES CITY - Running against stout competition at the first meet of the season at the Trent Smith Invitational on Sept. 2, the Crestwood girls’ and boys’ cross country teams both performed well as six individual Cadet runners placed in the top 10.
The high school races were separated into a ninth and 10th grade division and an 11th and 12th grade division for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
In the junior high girls’ and boys’ races, Crestwood posted six individual top 10 placings, including first place finishes by Mea Shelton in the girls’ race and Knute Rogne for the boys. No junior high or high school team scores were recorded.
In the ninth and 10th grade girls’ race, Crestwood ninth grader Laney Peter posted the highest finish for the Cadets by taking third place in 22 minutes, 5.1 seconds, which was only 29 seconds behind first place finisher Kadence Huck of Nashua-Plainfield (21:36). The next highest placings for the Cadets were Heidi Mahr (17th, 24:48.8) and Elise Church (18th, 25:02.2).
In the ninth and 10th grade boys’ race, Cadet sophomore Dominic Bigalk finished eighth in 19:03.9. Xander Graser of Charles City won the race in 17:51.9. Crestwood freshman Jaxon Millage placed 17th in 21:04.
Three Cadets placed in the top 10 in the 11th and 12th grade girls’ race. Senior Kendel Slavin finished fifth in 21:49.1, junior Olivia Ollendick took ninth place in 22:11.4 and senior Kyleigh Foster finished 10th in 22:22.3. Turkey Valley senior Jalyssa Blazek grabbed first in 19:12.5.
In the boys’ 11th and 12th grade race, Cadet senior Ethan Govern placed eighth in 18:21. Riley Witt of St. Ansgar took first in 16:14.2. Crestwood senior Ethan Mast placed 23rd in 19:40.6.
The junior high girls’ race saw four Cadets place in the top 10 including: Mea Shelton, first, 14:32.3; Jaylee Vobr, second, 14:57.2; Ryleigh Myers, fifth, 15:18.5; and Ava Johnson, eighth, 15:30.6.
In the junior high boys’ race, Knute Rogne took first in a time of 12:12.2, and Keaton Vobr was eighth in 14:04.7.
