Crestwood softball team enjoys stout 2022 season

CRESCO - The Crestwood softball team secured another solid season in 2022, which saw the Cadets post a strong 13-10 overall record (9-6 NEIC).
Crestwood defeated New Hampton, 8-2, in the first round of the regional tournament before losing, 1-4, to eventual State Qualifier Dubuque Wahlert in the semifinals at home on July 9.
The 2022 season opened with Crestwood winning five straight games against Lansing Kee, South Winn, Waukon (two games) and Waverly-SR. The Cadets fell to Mason City Newman and lost two games to Charles City.
The Cadets beat Decorah, 6-3, on June 9. Competing at the Jesup Tourney, the Cadets lost to West Central and beat West Delaware. Crestwood swept a twinbill from New Hampton and downed Waukon. After splitting two games against Waverly-SR, the Cadets concluded the regular season by falling to Turkey Valley (3-4), dropping two games to Decorah (3-5 and 1-3) and losing to New Hampton (0-3).
Crestwood excelled in all three phases of the game (hitting, pitching and fielding). In 23 games played, Crestwood racked up 138 total runs (6.0 per game) while allowing only 99 runs (4.3 per game).
As a team, the Cadets posted a stout .282 batting average, had 182 hits, including 36 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 100 RBIs. They also had an on-base percentage of .361, a slugging average of .357 and had 59 stolen bases.
Seniors on the team included: Kyleigh Foster and Emily Voyna. Juniors featured: Olivia Ollendick, Tierney Perkins, Britain Ferrie, Allison Ferrie, Elyse Rissman and Quinna Ollendieck.
Underclassmen included: Dannae Hubka, sophomore; Nevaeh Howe, sophomore; Blaire Cummings, freshman; Erica Ollendick, freshman; Laney Peter, freshman; Kyra Butikofer, freshman; and Kiernan Ruppert, eighth grade.
Foster led the Cadets in total hits (34), total bases (51), batting average (.436), on-base percentage (.511) and slugging (.654) and was second in RBIs with 13. 
In the pitching circle, Foster posted an 11-7 mark, tossed 126.1 innings, held opponents to a .233 batting average, allowed 118 hits, 62 runs (43 earned), walked 37, hit four batters, struck out 135 and had a 2.38 earned run average.
Freshman pitcher Erica Ollendick had a 2-3 record, tossed 25.2 innings, allowed opponents a .325 batting average, 40 hits, 36 runs (27 earned), walked 21, struck out 15 and had a 7.36 earned run average.
Olivia Ollendick posted a .338 batting average, a .420 on-base percentage, a .364 slugging average, led the team with 22 runs, had 26 hits, 10 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.
Voyna recorded a .333 batting average, had a .413 on-base percentage, a .409 slugging average, tallied 13 runs, 22 hits, including five doubles, nine stolen bases and 13 RBIs.
