DECORAH - The Crestwood girls’ and boys’ track teams both tallied several impressive performances at the Luther Invitational indoor meet at Luther College on Saturday, March 22. No team scores were recorded at the meet.
Cadet Girls’ Coach Karen Steffen was proud of the way her squad competed.
“We were very pleased with the team’s effort on Saturday,” Steffen noted. “We saw some really good performances for this point in the season. Right now, we’re trying to figure out where kids fit best in various events in order to help the team.
“Korey Hrdlicka and Rose Niewoehner finished first and second in the shot put. We’re expecting some big things out of both of them this season, and they are already coming through for us.
“In the long lump, Isabella Schlatter (first place, 16 feet, 7.75 inches, meet record) is jumping pretty consistently each time. Taylor came through with her personal best jump (14-9.75) to finish in third place.
“In the sprint races, we have quite a few strong sprinters, which allows us to move people around in events and run relays as strong as possible.
“Charley Curtis in the 55 meters (second, 7.67, personal record) and Isabella Schlatter (seconds, 28.28) in the 200 both posted very good times.
“In the hurdles, Ava Johnson ran a new PR in the 55 hurdles (9.73). Our hurdle crew shows lots of promise.
“In the distance races, Laney Peter (5:26.85) and Ava Daley (5:27.71) both ran a strong race in the 1500, placing first and second. They are in pretty good shape for this time of the season, and continue to push themselves. Their times rank them both in the top 20 in class 2A right now. Lexus D also ran well, placing third in the 1500. Claire Kach placed third in the 3000.
“In the middle distance, Bryleigh Slavin ran well and placed first in the 400 meters (1:11.56). Our 4x800 ran our best time in the last couple years, placing second (10:58.25). We have a lot of promise in many of the younger distance runners,” Steffen said.
In the 4x200, Curtis, Ella Otters, Isabella Schlatter and Aubrey took second in 1:53.95.
The sprint medley team of Otters, Schemmel, Hadley Riehle and Lexus Dohlman place third in 4:50.43
The 4x400 relay team of Mea Shelton, Taylor Reis, Ella Dennler and Bryleigh Slavin finished third in 4:35.11.
In the boys’ meet, Crestwood’s 4x200 team of Finn Donlan, Alex Loden, Dashel Donlan and Aidan Skoda won gold in 1:35.24.
Dashel Donlan won gold in the 200 meters in 23.55 seconds.
Crestwood senior Nathan Ahern won gold in the 3000 meters in a meet record time of 9:50.61 and he took first in the 800 meters in 2:04.18.
Luke Drtina took second in the high jump at 6 feet, 1 inch, which was a meet record. Drtina was third in the long jump at 18-11.25.
Aidan Skoda took first in the 55 meter dash in 6.67 seconds.
