No. 11 Cadet girls edge New Hampton in region semifinals, one win from State

CRESCO - The Class 3A No. 11 Crestwood softball team survived a late rally to edge New Hampton, 2-1, in the Region 5 semifinals on Friday, July 6. The Cadets (24-9) will advance to the Region 5 Final against No. 3 Waterloo Columbus (37-2) at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 9, at Waterloo Columbus High School. The winner will move on to the State Tournament, which will be July 16-20 in Fort Dodge.

The Cadets led New Hampton, 2-0, after six innings in the region semifinal. In the top of the seventh, New Hampton's Maddie Moorman hit a solo home run with two outs. Kerigan Tenge followed with a single. Kallie Olson ripped a double to left, but Tenge was thrown out at home plate to end the game as Crestwood won, 2-1.
