Wrestlers Fousek, Butikofer on front side of bracket

On Thursday, Feb. 17, Crestwood Cadet wrestlers senior Carter Fousek (138 pounds), with a record of 19-1, and junior Cole Butikofer (152), with a record of 36-4, both won their first matches in the Iowa State Wrestling 2A Tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals. They will wrestle next on Friday, Feb. 18.
Fousek, who is wrestling for his fourth championship, won by fall in 1:40 over sophomore Austin Evans (37-13) of Creston.
On Friday, Fousek will wrestle against junior Ty Koedam (49-8) of Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
Butikofer won a 4-2 decision over Gavin Scheuermann (40-7) of Greene County. He will wrestle on Friday against senior Garrett Seaba (41-3) of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
 
Consolation matches
• 106 pounds — Mitchell Schmauss (30-10), a freshman, lost to Kaden Weber (37-0) a senior from Nevada, 10-2. 
Schmauss then took on freshman Cyler Cirks (31-12) of Humbolt. He lost 6-2.
• 113 — Cole Schmauss (33-5), a senior, lost to Carson Doolittle (36-3), a sophomore, of Webster City, 9-3. 
He then took on senior Jacob Maes (26-9) of Assumption, Davenport, winning 11-0. He will wrestle on Friday against junior Gavin Jensen (52-3) of Williamsburg.
• 120 — Kole Johnson (24-11), a freshman, lost to junior Kale Petersen (10-0) of Greene County by fall.
In his consolation match, Johnson took on freshman C.J. Davis (40-7) of Burlington-Notre Dame, and lost 2-0.
