The City of Cresco Celebrates 250th Independence Day with Help from American Legion Post 135

CRESCO - The weather may have had us all worried, but luck was on our side as the clear skies opened up just in time for Cresco's 4th of July Parade, the first in recent years. The event, organized by Legion Post 135, was extra special this year as it celebrated America's 250th anniversary with a series of exciting events.

   The highlight of the day was, of course, the parade, which featured colorful floats, waving flags, tractors, emergency services and local businesses. The community came out in full force to show their patriotic spirit and cheer on the participants as they made their way through the streets of Cresco.

   In addition to the parade, Legion Post 135 also organized a free Pork Loin lunch for attendees. Over 300 people enjoyed a delicious meal and the opportunity to socialize with their neighbors. The turnout for the lunch was fantastic, with many people commenting on the delicious food with a buzz in the air about the upcoming events of the day.

   Following the lunch, the Legion hosted a puzzle contest for all ages and a coloring contest for children where attendees could vote for their favorite piece of art. After the parade the Legion also hosted an ice cream social with free root beer floats for any members of the community that attended. These activities provided fun and entertainment for people of all ages, and the winners walked away with some great prizes.

   After the events you could drive around in and out of town and find family and friends hanging around fire pits, playing with sparklers or shooting off fireworks; taking advantage of the consumer firework ban lift for the 3rd and 4th of July. Residents sat back in their own yards watching the displays that neighbors put on.

   If you paid attention you would also notice many with their porch lights left on, as requested by the Legion, all adding to the vibe of an already fun and exciting day.

   Overall, the 250th Independence Day Celebration in Cresco was a spectacular event that brought the community together in a spirit of pride. 

   The American Legion Post 135's efforts to organize this celebration were greatly appreciated, and the city looks forward to many more successful events in the future.
