Cresco entrepreneur, community leader Turnmire passes

CRESCO - Community leader and businessman Dale Turnmire, at the age of 91, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. 
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Cresco United Methodist Church. 
Very involved in the Cresco and Howard County area and having owned and operated the Puritan Ice Cream and Meat Processing Company, he was a legend in helping where needed in countless volunteer roles and activities. 
“Dale was the true definition of a community champion,” stated Chamber/CEDA Executive Director Jason Passmore of Turnmire. “He set the standard for directors to follow.  Dale and Mary Ellen both have quite the legacy in the numerous bronze statues throughout Cresco and Howard County.” 
For over 40 years Turnmire supported, among others, the Howard-Winn. School, The Cresco Opera House, the Cresco Fitness Center, Regional Health Services and more.  
Turnmire was known to say, “I will work hard and lend my support to anything that would benefit the area.”
His efforts in the 1960s helped bring the Donaldson Company plant to Cresco.
