CRESCO – The Cresco Expo Center was filled with camaraderie and respect on November 8, 2025, as community members gathered for the annual Veterans Banquet hosted by American Legion Post 135, Riders & Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4561 & Auxiliary as well as The Veterans Affairs Office. The event began at 5 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner at 6 p.m., and a heartfelt program commencing at 7 p.m. This year’s theme centered on the critical issue of veteran suicide prevention.
Emcee Zachary Slifka brought a personal touch to the evening, sharing his own experiences with emotional candor. His heartfelt reflections set a poignant tone for the event, emphasizing the importance of awareness and support for veterans facing mental health challenges.
The guest speaker, Deanne Hosek, who served in the Army Reserves and National Guard from 1988 to 2011, shared her insights as a licensed mental health counselor at the Cresco Medical Clinic. With her Master’s Degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling, Hosek highlighted state-of-the-art treatments for veterans and urged community members to seek assistance when needed.
The banquet opened with a powerful rendition of the National Anthem performed by Crestwood band members, followed by the crowd joining together for the Pledge of Allegiance. Other touching elements of the evening included a moment to honor POW/MIA service members, an opening prayer led by Post 135 Chaplain Gary Johnson, and special musical performances by Gary Ferrie and Katie Ferrie, who captivated the audience with “God Bless America” and “God Bless the USA.”
