DES MOINES - The 43rd annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show continues to make an impact, raising $569,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa. Including this year’s donations, the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Auction has surpassed $6 million in donations since its inception in 1983.
Congratulations to Saratoga 4-H member Chandler Ludwig!
She and her steer, Snoop Dog, proudly represented Howard County in the Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair on August 9. Chandler is the daughter of Jason and Kirsten Ludwig.
Ludwig will be attending 11th grade at Crestwood High School, and has been in 4-H for eight years, currently sitting on the County Council. Chandler and her steer, Snoop Dog, were sponsored by the Volunteer Boards of Iowa Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Chandler’s celebrity show person was U. S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, and Snoop Dog was selected as one of the top five steers for the championship drive.
Chandler helped raise $45,600 through the Governor’s Charity Steer Show, with all proceeds benefiting the three Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa, located in Des Moines, Iowa City, and Sioux City. Together, these special houses have supported more than 55,000 families from all 50 states, including every county in Iowa, plus numerous countries.
A notable first for the Governor’s Charity Steer Show was the participation of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins as a celebrity showman. Sec. Rollins is the first sitting U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to participate in this event.
