New owners looking forward to serving customers at Billmyer Furniture

CRESCO - Sometimes things just happen, even when you’re not looking!  That may be the case for Donna and Mike Vsetecka, who recently purchased the Billmyer Furniture & Flooring store in downtown Cresco. 

Taking over the reigns from previous owners Dar and John Skoda on May 2, the Vsetecka’s recently had a Cresco Chamber Ribbon Cutting on Wednesday, May 24, officially announcing the transition. 

Over the past few weeks, the Skoda’s––who had owned Billmyer Furniture for over 12 years––have been helping Donna and her son, Jackson, get acclimated with the business, learning the products, the operation and so much more. 

“Since taking over, all has gone smoothly, but also very quickly,” said the new owner about all that has taken place. “With John and Dar staying on, we could not have done it without their help.  It truly would have been impossible without them.  They’ve been a great support for us and hopefully we gained some of their knowledge and know-how.”

Donna stated that the “switch over” from ownership with suppliers went “extremely well” largely due to their help. “It’s really been a smooth transition in that respect of the business.” 

With Donna being a dental assistant in Decorah for over 20 years and other area jobs, the change has been a little nerve-racking, but good for the Vsetecka family. 

“This is really our first time in owning a business,” stated Donna about the purchase and starting a new career. “We did get a taste of owning a small business, starting Turkey River Curb Appeal & Flag Poles (established in 2020 during Covid), which we’re going to keep. However, it’s nothing like this!”
