Cresco - Although only a freshman at University of Iowa, Haley Martin, daughter of Michael and Deb Martin of Cresco, was chosen to manage her own College Works Painting business.
When all the students returned to college last fall, they were approached by different businesses and clubs, wanting students to join their team. Martin was intrigued by College Works Painting and filled out an application. After four interviews, she was selected to move forward with the program.
The second weekend in March, she attended a two-day training in Plymouth, Minn. “We listened to awesome speakers,” she stated.
When her training is completed, she will be able to give free estimates on interior and exterior house painting.
The work will be done over the summer. Martin will hire and manage her own painting crew, which will be trained by Sherwin-Williams.
“My branch is about 30 managers throughout Iowa and Minnesota. About 25 states are also part of the company,” she explained.
The company prints flyers for Martin, so she can hand them out door-to-door when she is talking to potential customers.
When not running her own business, Martin is studying for her bio-chemistry major.
Having the opportunity to run her own business is a great adventure.
“It’ll help me with communication skills, and I’ll learn with real-world experience. I’m super excited to have the opportunity and thankful for the experience and skills I will learn and have already learned.”
Give a new business a chance when Martin knocks on your door. You will end up with a beautiful house, and Martin will get financial and on-the-job experience for her schooling. It’s a win-win.
