CRESCO - Timothy Jon Schmitt, age 48, of Cresco, Iowa, cherished and dedicated husband of Denise, beloved son of George and Darlene (Linderbaum) Schmitt, dearly loved brother of Pam Schmitt and Tom Schmitt, adored uncle, cousin, nephew and treasured friend to many, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Due to the upcoming deer season, a Celebration of Tim’s Life visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, from 4-7 p.m. at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco. A private family Memorial Mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
To those who knew him, you know it is impossible to capture Tim’s life, passions, work ethic, personality and spirit in just a few words . . . but here it goes.
Tim was born on Sept. 4, 1972, where, from the beginning, he was a permanent attachment to his mother’s hip. Darlene had to learn to work one-handed, due to Tim being a “little fussy” baby, who wanted and needed his mother’s constant love. Tim’s childhood was filled with a consistent farm family’s strong work ethic.
He graduated with the Crestwood High School Class of 1991. Tim then hauled canned milk for the Amish, which got him into the best shape he was ever in. He also lended his skills and strong work ethic, by milking cows, baling hay, combining, and the list goes on. He was that hired man everyone knew they could call on.
In the next stage of his life, the “Culligan Man” was born. Also at this time, Tim began to nurture his passion for farming and beef cows. Using his strong, hard-working ethics, he become the caretaker and built his own farm paradise to what it is today. His daily mantra was “God, makes me the person my cows think I am.”
Tim embraced his love of hunting whitetail deer a.k.a. “Big Buck” and coyotes. To him, it wasn’t only about the hunt; it was the treasured time spent with his “deer” friends. Tim could dress a deer and castrate a cow. However, his tender heart led him to tears watching a tear-jerker movie. (Don’t tell him, we told you.)
Tim’s life turned topsy-turvy when his heart was captured by Denise Bruening. They were blessed to have their love intensify throughout their 21 years together. The couple learned early on the two most important words in a relationship are “Yes, Deer.” Both understood how blessed they were to have found their soul mate.
Tim lived a loving, hardworking, adventurous, mischievous, fun-filled life, so many of you know that smirk of his. He lived his unselfish life with his heart on his sleeve, enjoying his passions of farming and hunting, family strong ethics, treasured friendships, giving unconditional love and joy and being the best husband to Denise, which continued until his last breath.
Tim is sorely missed and survived by his heartbroken and dedicated wife, Denise of Cresco; parents, George and Darlene Schmitt of Cresco; sister, Pamela “Pam” (Tom Glynn) Schmitt of Brainerd, Minn.; brother, Thomas “Tom” Schmitt of Independence, Iowa; nieces, Patty, Kelly and Kimberly; father-in-law, Darrell (Gretchen) Bruening of Decorah, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Mark) Masias of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Darcy (Joe) Whalen of Decorah; brother-in-law, Jed (Michelle) Johnson of Caledonia, Minn.; nieces and nephews, Sarah, Jenny, Taylor, Amber, Jamie, Aubrey, Samantha and Korbin; great-nieces and -nephews; special aunts, uncles and cousins; many special friends; and his cows.
We know Tim is now with his cherished mother-in-law, Juanita Bruening and dearly loved uncle, Bob, as well as many other special aunts and uncles and his special calf Harry.
To those who choose the gift of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution to Notre Dame Catholic Church, or mail a contribution in Tim’s honor, which will be made to the Crestwood FFA program, to Denise Schmitt, 706 2nd St. E., Cresco, IA, 52136.
