CRESCO - Richard “Dick” Ollendieck, age 81, of Cresco, Iowa died on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Accura HealthCare in Cresco.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 3 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with the Rosary recited at 3:30.
Richard was born on April 24, 1940 on the family farm to Ben and Irma (Fritz) Ollendieck. He attended Catholic school and graduated from Notre Dame High School. He even drove a school bus his senior year to transport his siblings and neighbors to school. After graduating, he went to the Army Reserves.
On May 19, 1962, he was united in marriage to Lois Trouten at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco. To this union, eight children were born. Dick worked at Donaldson Company and Spahn & Rose before buying and moving to the family farm. He continued to milk cows and farm for 47 years, until he had to retire from his passion due to his health.
Dick was very active. He was a member of numerous boards, with the Howard County Fair Board being one of his favorites. He was very proud when he became president of the board. He earned his auctioneer license in 2000 and worked for McCarville Auction Co. He shared those skills at various church fund-raisers. He was an Archer Oil dealer for many years.
His family meant the world to Dick. He especially enjoyed his grandkids and always found time to take them for a spin around the farm on his prized Gator. He was not a traveler due to his commitment to the farm and his cows, but he loved going out to eat EVERY Friday night for fish and would never turn down a trip to Culver’s for shrimp. He loved going to movies, country music and dancing, and he even took square dancing lessons.
A person could always get a good laugh out of him by reciting quotes from his favorite movies, which his children did quite often. Although he denied having a sweet tooth, he loved peanut M&Ms, Hershey’s chocolate with almonds, ice cream and, of course, Lois’ chocolate chip cookies.
Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois; and children, Scott (Karen), Mark (Lisa), Todd (Gena), Jason (Randi), Kerby (Chad), Amy (Matt) Brace and Adam (Susan). He is also survived by grandchildren: Kyle (Janel), Sara (Foster); Cody (Trista), Megan (Noah), Ashleigh (Gavin), Mandie (Larry); Jessica and Heather Riha; Quinna; Caleb; Madison, Travis and Sam Brace; and Tristin, Morgan and Cassie, as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Teena in infancy; three brothers, Donald, Robert and Dean; two sisters, Marion and Judy; and several nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
