LIME SPRINGS - Lorrinea Helen Munkel, age 94, of Lime Springs, Iowa, passed away at Regional Health Services of Howard County in the early hours of Feb. 14. She had several of her children at her side as she passed into the Lord's hands.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Lorrinea was born in York Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to John H. and Theresa A. (Ott) Leibold. She was one of seven siblings growing up on a farm in rural York Township and attended country school through eighth grade.
Lorrinea met Donald (Pete) Lloyd Munkel, and the couple were married at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chester, Iowa on Aug. 22, 1950. This marriage was blessed with four children, Sandra Stocks of Rochester, Minn., Ronald Munkel of Panora, Iowa, Carolyn Munkel of Lime Springs and Brenda Oberbroeckling (Darryl Manders) of Cresco.
Lorrinea was a loving wife and mother — always there for her family. Her main focus in life was to maintain a loving and caring home environment for her children. This included making sure the family regularly attended Mass to nourish the soul. Nourishment of the body was also high on her priorities list. She demonstrated her fantastic cooking skills daily. Much to her family’s delight, she regularly made pies that were always made to perfection.
She took great delight and had a great love for her grandchildren, Jessica Ditlevson of Kasson, Minn., Jacqueline Stocks of Rochester and Derek Oberbroeckling of Waukee, Iowa; and great-grandchildren, Kaya, Brady, Jalyn, Jace and Javon. She always enjoyed visiting with her numerous nieces and nephews. She also took delight in her constant furry companions over the years, especially, the most recent “Cocoa.”
She was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and more recently Notre Dame Catholic Church.
Lorrinea is survived by her sister, Cecelia Hall of LeRoy, Minn. and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Theresa; husband, Donald; and five brothers, Leo, Edwin, Raymond, Arnold and Raphael.
