Cresco Memorial Day Program Honors Fallen Heroes with Solemn Ceremonies

Truly, Memorial Day in Cresco was a day of solemn reflection and heartfelt remembrance, honoring the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation.
CRESCO - On Monday, May 25th, Memorial Day, the community of Cresco came together to pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary, The American Legion and Auxiliary, Legion Riders, Scouts, and the Crestwood High School band marched in unity from Fareway to the Howard County Courthouse for a poignant ceremony.
The program commenced with a solemn presentation of colors by the Boy Scouts, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, setting the tone for a day of remembrance. Emcee VFW officer Leon Roethler delivered welcoming remarks, followed by the decoration of soldier’s monuments by the Boy Scouts and a moving Gun Salute and taps played by Isaiah Coats from the CHS Band.
Under the direction of Tia Heien, the CHS Band performed the national anthem, filling the air with patriotic melodies. Pastor Melissa Warren offered an Invocation, setting a reflective tone for the day's proceedings. The Flag Essay Winner readings by Landon Hackman and Sully McCarville added a touch of youthful reverence to the ceremony, showcasing the importance of honoring and remembering those who have served as well as a push to get the younger generations involved.
After the courthouse program, the organizations gathered at Calvery Cemetery to honor the last Veteran buried there, paying tribute to Wayne Scholbrock with special services at his gravesite. At Vernon a heartfelt wreath was cast on the waters at by Girl Scout Lillabeth Munkel as a salute to those who perished at sea, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women in all branches of the military.
