CRESCO - Howard County was hit with severe storms on Wednesday, July 8th, causing tree and electrical damage in the City of Cresco. The storms left a trail of disruption in their wake, particularly East of North Elm Street where a number of residents were left without power for around 12 hours.
Alliant Energy crews were on the scene for approximately 13 hours working to restore power to the affected areas in phases, some got their electricity back that night, others did not get it back until the following morning.
The City Street department also worked diligently for about 3 hours to clean up fallen trees and branches that littered the streets.
Residents are urged to exercise caution as storm season in our area usually peaks from May through early August when the contrast between warm, moist air and cold air masses trigger frequent severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes. Residents are also encouraged to report any damage to local authorities if an event occurs.
Together, the community and city rallied together to provide a quick cleanup and support to those impacted by the storm.
