CEDAR FALLS - Ada Walter, 107, of Cresco, IA passed away peacefully at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco on Thursday, September 19, 2024, surrounded by Family.
Ada Severta Knutson was born June 20, 1917. She was the daughter of Ada (Reinhart) and Severt Knutson. She attended the local school and went to High School in Rochester, MN while living with an aunt and uncle there. She was united in marriage to Ervin L. Walter on March 28, 1935. They became the proud parents of Sharon Lee, Sandra, Ernie, Larry, Peggy and Lee.
Ada and Ervin farmed in Albion Township until retiring in 1978. They continued to live on the family farm. Ada was very involved with the operation of the farm, working alongside Ervin and doing whatever was necessary at the time. She was a good cook and cooked many meals for people helping with the farm operation.
Ada loved to bake cookies, cakes and yeast breads being some of her favorites. Ada joined the Zion United Methodist Church and was a very active member, especially of the women’s group there. Ervin joined the Cresco Masonic Lodge and he and Ada were also members of the Eastern Star until the Cresco chapter closed.
After retirement, Ada and Ervin enjoyed fishing, especially at the family cabin in northern Minnesota. They also enjoyed bird watching. Ada learned to quilt and do embroidery work when she was quite young; started on her first quilt at the age of nine. Quilting and embroidery work were lifelong pleasures for her. Family members and friends treasure many items made by Ada.
In 2015, to celebrate Ada’s 98th birthday, the family took a two-week trip to Alaska. She really enjoyed the cruise and bus trip and often talked about it.
Ada is survived by daughters Sandra (Richard) Parks and Peggy Ireland, sons Ernie, Larry and Lee, two granddaughters Karen Parks of Cresco and Lisa (Blake) Johnson D.V.M of Eden Prairie, MN and great-granddaughters: Stephanie, Sarah and Hannah Johnson.
Ada was preceded in death by her parents Severt and Ada Knutson, adopted parents Albert and Anna Reinhart, husband Ervin, infant son, and daughter Sharon Lee.
The family wishes to thank Ada’s loving caregivers at Evans Memorial Home and also Hospice of Howard County for everything they did for her. Knowing that Mother was well cared for made life better for all of us.
