CRESCO - Arleen Hron, age 74, of Cresco, Iowa died, surrounded by her family, on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at Regional Health Services of Howard County.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa, followed by burial in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 15 from 3-6 p.m. at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, with a Parish Scripture Service at 6 p.m. Arleen was born March 26, 1943 in Decorah, Iowa, the only child of Frank and Gladys (Lukes) Necas. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1962 and married James Hron on March 16, 1964 at Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Arleen worked in housekeeping at Accura HealthCare for 25 years.
Arleen enjoyed reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles, shopping trips and watching WWE Wrestling and other sporting events on TV. Her main passion was gardening, canning the produce and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed her pets, cats, dogs and rabbits, and coloring in her later years. Over the years she wrote many letters to her grandchildren, relatives and former classmates, especially Dee Cole.
Most recently she enjoyed all the activities at Accura HealthCare Center, especially winning an award at the care center’s annual tractor show in 2017, with her grandson. She adored her children, attending the sporting events her grandchildren were in and took pride in having three grandchildren who have completed college.
Arleen is survived by three children Beverly (Tom) O’Brien of Cresco, Greg (Darla) Hron of Protivin, Iowa and Theresa (John) Martinek of Cresco; five grandchildren, Heather O’Brien and her significant other, Reggie Moon, Holly O’Brien, Hallie (James) Gragert, Mitchell Martinek and Ryan Martinek; a step-grandchild, Chelsey Smith; two great-grandsons, Mason and Liam Moon; and two step-great-grandchildren, Dakota and Zander.
Arleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James in 1975; and a daughter, Diane, who passed away as an infant in 1966.
