CRESCO - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Constance Mae Taylor on October 1, 2025, at the age of 84.
Connie was born September 4, 1941, the daughter of Dr. Robert B “Doc” Helming and Winifred (Mitchell) Helming. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1959. She continued her education at The Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN.
On October 9, 1960, Connie married Patrick Taylor. They lived in Osage, IA for two years where Connie worked at the Osage Nursing Home and Osage Medical Center. The couple returned to Cresco, IA where Pat opened up his own barbershop (Taylor’s Barber Shop). She was employed at the Evans Memorial Home for 32 years, followed by a nine year career at the Cresco Medical Clinic.
Connie’s interests were primarily focused around friends and family, which included her Saturday morning coffee crew and luncheon group. She enjoyed playing cards, watching sporting events with her husband, antiques, volunteering at the Evans Memorial Home, and being an active member of the First United Methodist Church Women’s Group.
Connie is survived by her husband Patrick, daughter Lori (Bill) Puffett of Mitchellville, IA, son Eric (Sara) Taylor of Overland Park, KS, grandsons David (Ashley) Puffett of Urbandale, IA and Derek Puffett of Denver, CO, granddaughter Jessica Taylor of La Crosse, WI, and great-granddaughter Emersyn Puffett.
Preceding Connie in death were her parents Dr. Robert B “Doc” and Winifred Helming, sister Sharon and her husband Jerry Bowen, nephew Doug Bowen and a brother Bob Helming.
Connie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and above all, the best friend any person could ask for. Her grandchildren and great-grandchild held a special place in her heart. She was generous with her time, and committed to her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Connie requested that memorials be directed to Regional Health Services of Howard County, Howard County Hospice and the Evans Memorial Home.
A visitation will be held from 9-11:00 a.m. on October 18, 2025 at Schmelzer Funeral Home in Cresco. A graveside service will take place immediately following at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Schmelzer Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
