David Doyle Herold was born on May 23, 1949 to Dorrence and Ruth (Miner) Herold in Mason City, Iowa. They later moved to Cresco. From 1964-1969, David worked part-time at the Coca-Cola factory. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1967 and then attended NIACC for one year. He started working at Donaldson Company in May 1969 where he became known as “Harry.”
On Feb. 5, 1994, David was united in marriage to Maxine Faye (Timmerman) Jordan. With this marriage, David became a father to Tim and Teresa.
David had a big heart, as shown by keeping track of everyone’s birthday and recognizing them by sending a card. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and was in the Bowling League in Cresco. He took his love of sports seriously as he would plan his entire weekend around the games to watch simultaneously on his two TVs.
Most of all, he loved spending time with Maxine, especially traveling and antiquing. They traveled all over, including places such as Alaska, Washington D.C., New York, Hawaii, Mexico and Italy. While in Italy, they were able to participate in an audience with the Pope. David was able to be a Eucharistic Minister on the trip.
He retired from Donaldson’s after 44 years in 2013.
David is survived by his son, Tim Jordan of Ames, Iowa; daughter, Teresa (Richard) McGee of Cresco; grandchildren, Kevin (Emily) McGee of Monroe, Wis., Jessica (special friend Haley Davis) McGee of Mason City, Iowa and Lucas (special friend Alexa Bilyeu) McGee of Iowa City, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Faye McGee; siblings, Carol (Fletcher) Boeshart of Northwood, Iowa, Dianna (Jim) Theilen of Ames, Iowa, Dixie Spencer of Clear Lake, Iowa, Deb Hanson of Rochester, Minn. and Doug (Twyla) Herold of Oskaloosa, Iowa; special cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine on March 23, 2020; his brother, Dean Herold in 2015; and brother-in-law Gary Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Howard County Community Hospice or RHS Foundation in David’s honor.
