Eugene Dotzler, 91

Eugene Dotzler, age 91, of Cresco, Iowa died at home on July 4, 2026.

Eugene Paul Dotzler was born on March 12, 1935, to Edward and Mae (Shafer) Dotzler. He met a beautiful young woman named, Elaine Svestka, at a dance in Spillville, and shortly after made her his wife. The couple married on June 27, 1962, which was a special date to their family as Elaine’s parents and sister also got married on a June 27th.  To this union two sons were born Ronald and Randy.  

A natural born caretaker of the land, Eugene loved his time being on his farm, which he took over from Edward and Viola Svestka in the 1970s. He milked and fed the cows, worked in the field, tinkered on machinery, all to keep the farm running and provide for his family. When the farm was in need of a new tractor, he worked on the side for Concrete Products to provide the finances needed so his family did not go without.  His strong work ethic and life experience made him the smartest man around without ever having to step foot in a college classroom. Taking care of his 160 acres and 40 cows helped him put his children through school.

Eugene is survived by his children Ronald (Brandie) Dotzler, of Dothan, AL, Randy (Virginia Golden) Dotzler, of Cresco, IA, and grandson Reed Dotzler.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine on June 10, 1985, and all of his brothers and sisters.

A visitation were  held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa. Immediately after the visitation, a Graveside service officiated by Fr. Jacob Rouse was held for Eugene at Howard Center Cemetery, Cresco, Iowa; where military honors will be accorded.
