Lynus C. Houdek was born on June 28, 1936 to Clem and Adeline (Kupka) Houdek in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. As a young man, he graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cresco.  Lynus was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved being in nature whether he was on a boat while fishing, or a quiet moment in the woods bow hunting.  When he was not outside, he could be found reading a hunting or fishing magazine, reloading shotgun shells, or making his own fishing lures.  Lynus enjoyed traveling to lutefisk dinners and playing cards five times a week with his friends.
Throughout his life, Lynus held several different job positions. In 1950, he worked as a road builder, and then took a position as a highway surfacer in 1952. In 1958, Lynus changed directions and started working in more agriculture related jobs. He spent 2 years working for John Deere before picking up odd jobs here and there for farms from 1960 – 1970. Lynus started work with Concrete Products in 1968, and continued his work there for 25 years. While maintaining his job, Lynus also dug many graves and maintained the grounds for the souls resting at Calvary Cemetery.
Lynus is survived by his sister Joan Curtis of Cresco, Iowa, and his sister-in-law Lavada Houdek, of Cresco, Iowa, nephews and nieces Kendall (Maureen) Curtis and their children Rachel Templeton and Rory Curtis, Darla Stone, Bradley (Deb) Curtis and their son Mitchell Curtis, Darren (Tracey) Armstrong and their daughter Morgan Newsom, Chad (Kristie) Curtis and their children Kyler Curtis and Charley Sue Curtis, Todd Houdek and his sons Hunter Houdek and Gage Houdek, and Teri Sue (Jason) Gassmann and their children Taylor Gassmann and Tessah Gassmann.
