LIME SPRINGS - Melba I. Jenkins, age 81, of Lime Springs, died on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minn.
A Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Foreston Cemetery rural Lime Springs. Celebration of Life will follow from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Lime Springs Community Center.
Melba Ilene Jenkins was born June 17, 1942, daughter of Arthur and Amalia (Schumacher) Wahlers at Northwood, Iowa. Melba attended elementary school in Myrtle, Minn. She graduated in 1960 from Glenville High School, Glenville, Minn.. After graduation Melba worked in Austin, Minn.; where she met her future husband, John Jenkins.
On November 25, 1961, she married John at Queen of Angels Church in Austin, Minn. Melba and John farmed in the Taopi, MN area, and in 1968 they purchased a farm near Lime Springs. Melba enjoyed photography, traveling, genealogy, playing cards, and the computer. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons Scott (Kelly) of Lime Springs, Jeffrey (Connie) of Osage; four grandchildren Steven (Adrienne) of Columbus, GA, Shannon Hanson of Humbolt, Iowa, Elizabeth and Molly Jenkins both of Osage; three great grandchildren Kaydence, Zackery, and Peyton Jenkins all of Columbus, GA; two step-grandchildren Curtiss Jones and Sara Barron; sisters Iris Bighley of Albert Lea, Minn., Lois Brandt of Albert Lea, Minn.; sister-in-law Arcley Wahlers of Austin, Minn.; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law that were very important to her; and many nieces and nephews.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; sister, Doris (Tony) Belshan, two brothers Cecil (Lucille) Wahlers and Wayne Wahlers and brother-in-law Harold Brandt.
