Big Horn, WYO. - Michelle Roush, age 64, of Big Horn, Wyo., passed away at the Sheridan Hospital in Sheridan Wyo. on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

Michelle did not want a big funeral or fuss and wanted her ashes spread on the mountain.

Michelle was born on March 31, 1957, to Leland William Malek Jr. and Carol Mae (Natvig) Malek at the Howard County Hospital in Cresco, Iowa, the second of six children. Michelle attended Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools and graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco, in 1975. She went on to NICC (Area One Community College at the time) for nursing and graduated with her degree as an LPN in 1976.

Michelle’s love of hunting and the great outdoors prompted her to move to Buffalo, Wyo. in 1976. She loved going out there with her parents, who both loved hunting , so she moved there.

On June 18, 1983, she married Tom Roush up on the mountain, near where they had met. To this union, two children were born, Luke Thomas Roush and Leah Michelle Roush.

Michelle worked at the hospital in Buffalo, Wyo. for several years as an LPN. She and her family loved to hunt and fish, and they have a room full of beautiful trophies in their home that show how accomplished they were. 

Michelle always raised a huge garden and canned vegetables, fruits and even meat. She was a very good cook and baker, and no one ever left her table hungry. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, Izzy and Levi, whom she loved with all her heart! She also loved her wired-haired dachshund puppies, Bubba, Gully and Cheeto, who had passed not long ago.

Michelle had an amazingly strong faith and a very close personal relationship with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. He guided her through many trials and tribulations. She wanted to be there to share her life with Tom, to see her children grow up and to spend precious time with her grandchildren. Her faith and strength in God kept her here many, many more years than the doctors had given her.

She is survived by her husband Tom Roush of Big Horn; son, Luke Roush, daughter, Leah Roush and grandchildren, Isabella and Levi Dennee, all of Sheridan; a sister, Monica Kulow of The Colony, Texas; sister, Marti (Gary) Ferrie of Cresco; brother, Chuck (Kathy) Malek of Cresco; and sister, Carrie (Al) Lopez of Cresco; aunt, Jean Forde of Decorah, Iowa; uncle, Vern (Linda) Natvig of Green Valley, Ariz.; and uncle, Mark (Valerie) Natvig of Lawler, Iowa. She is also survived by eight nieces, five nephews and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carol and Leland Malek Jr.; her brother, Matt Malek of Cresco; her in-laws, Clarence and Erlene Roush of Sheridan; her aunt and uncle, Shirlee and Jerry Slifka; and her grandparents, Leland William Malek Sr., Alta B. (Duneman) Malek and Carlyle E. Natvig and Gladys S. (Drewlow) Natvig.
