RIDGEWAY - Phyllis Hauber, age 89, of Ridgeway, Iowa, died on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 19, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa with Father Robert Gross officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Phyllis Joann Kelley was born on June 9, 1931 in Decorah to Joseph and Mary (Noecker) Kelley. She attended country school and graduated from Decorah High School. She married Dwayne Hauber on Nov. 27, 1957 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, Iowa.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The couple had six children and loved raising their big family and watching it grow. Phyllis was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a member of The Catholic Daughters of America, Legion of Mary and St Wenceslaus Guild. She enjoyed spending time with friends, polka music, dances at Matters, her strong Irish heritage and a good game of euchre. She sang for many weddings and funerals. Phyllis always had a pot of coffee on and was ready to feed anyone who stopped by.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Theresa) Hauber of Elkader, Iowa and Alan (Connie) Hauber of Ridgeway; four daughters, Jeanenne (Ken) Ferrie of Heyworth, Ill., Lynette (Dale) Andera of Cresco, Iowa, Elaine (Dave) Bergan of Ridgeway and Kathy (Doug) Donovan of Ridgeway; 20 grandchildren, Christina Ingham, Tony (Ketaki), Andy (Amy) and Jacob Hauber, Megan (Ben) Finley, Nick, Michael (Emily) and Kelley Hauber, Isaac (Abbi), Katie, Zachary and Chelsea Ferrie, Blake (Alicia), Alisha, Alex and Sabrina Andera, Morgan and Jared Bergan and John and Matthew Donovan; 11 great-grandchildren, Drake and Hannah Ingham, Cayden, Brycen and Evelyn Hauber, Carolena, Cole and Callen Ferrie, Rhett and Adeline Andera and Peyton Hauber; and one brother-in-law, Vince Hauber of Ridgeway.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne; her parents, Joseph and Mary (Noecker) Kelley; sister, Audrey (Alton) Rue; brothers, Glen (Rosie) Kelley and Mark (Helen) Kelley; father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Colletta (Tierney) Hauber; sisters-in-law, Hattie Hauber and Patsy Hauber; and brother-in-law, Joe Hauber.
