RICEVILLE - Robert John Percival Jr., 66, of Riceville, IA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, IA.
Robert was born on September 12, 1958, to Robert Sr. and Sharon (Beckel) Percival in Austin, MN. Bob graduated from Austin High School and was united in marriage to Linda. They raised five kids: Ben, Mesha, Melissa, Amanda and Kathrynn during their marriage. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1978 and served his country for 11 years, living in various parts of the world. After his marriage to Linda was dissolved, he resided in Rochester, MN where he began his career in retail until retirement. He met Steve on May 1, 1991, at a potluck dinner that started their relationship that lasted until Bob’s death. Steve, never having had children of his own, co-parenting brought new challenges and joys to their relationship. On the 15th anniversary of their meeting, they flew to Vancouver B.C., they were united in marriage on May 1, 2006. Bob and Steve said they wanted 10 acres in the country. In 2006 that dream came true, for Bob, when they bought their farm in Riceville.
He was a loving husband, devoted father, a cherished grandpa and loyal friend. Bob’s life was defined by his deep love for his family and his strong-willed spirit.
He was an amazing chef, knowledgeable of various subjects, stubborn, patient, spiritual and caring. Bob was a leader and a very hard worker. He had many passions but cooking and baking was food for his soul.
His hobbies included gardening, canning, needlework, New Age music, singing, playing guitar, and cooking. He really enjoyed family time, especially during holidays.
Bob is survived by his husband Steve Jensson; his children: Ben Boysen, Mesha (James) Percival, Melissa (Scott) McKee, Amanda (Mike) Brunner and Kathrynn (Mikey) Dortland; 12 grandchildren: Briannah, Diana, Mikal, Britney, Makayla, April, Elizabeth, Davin, Megan, Paige, Adriannah and Devin; five great-grandchildren, father Robert Percival Sr., two sisters Patricia (Bob) Lowe and Christine (Terry) McBeain, brother Thomas Percival, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother Sharon (Beckel) Percival, mother in-law Mavis Jensson, sister Starr Percival and sweet dog Val.
A memorial service was held at 11:00am on October 11, 2024 at Schmelzer (formerly known as Lindstrom) Funeral Home in Riceville, with Pastor Paula Hemann officiating.
