STORY CITY - A clutch interception by Crestwood senior Brayden Thompson with 51 seconds left in the game helped clinch a thrilling 27-23 win for the Cadets over Class 2A No. 6 Roland-Story on Friday, Oct. 25 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
The Cadets (4-5) will play No. 7 North Fayette Valley (8-1) on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in West Union in the second round of the playoffs.
NFV defeated Crestwood, 34-7, on Oct. 18 in the final regular season game. The winner of Friday’s second round game will play on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. against either Osage or Spirit Lake.
The Roland-Story Norsemen held a 23-21 lead going into the fourth quarter before Cadet senior Aidan Skoda scored on a five-yard touchdown run with 9:20 left to give Crestwood a 27-21 lead. The two-point run failed.
The Norsemen drove from their own 30 to the Cadets’ 31-yard-line with under one minute left before Thompon’s interception sealed the deal for Crestwood.
Cadet Head Coach Justin Denner said his squad was focused and ready to play against the No. 6 Norsemen.
