Cadet girls’ track team advances to State in six events, boys qualify in five

DENVER - Despite cool temperatures and a steady rain, the Crestwood girls’ and boys’ track teams both competed well at the Class 2A State Qualifier Meet in Denver on Thursday, May 9.
The Cadet girls’ squad placed second overall with 106.5 points while the Crestwood boys’ team took fifth with 68 points. The State Meet will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines from May 16-18.
Crestwood’s girls’ team advanced to the State Meet in six events including: 4x200 (second place, 1:52.09 seconds); 3000 meters (Kinze Shea, second, 10:49.10); 1500 (Shea, third, 5:07.04); 100 dash (Charley Curtis, second, 13.12); long jump (Lily Troendle, first, 16-5.5 and Isabella Schlatter, second, 16-1.5); and shot put (Korey Hrdlicka, fourth, 36-2).
In the boys’ meet, Crestwood’s Aidan Skoda qualified for State by taking second in the 100 dash (11.30). Dashel Donlan placed third in the 200 (22.96) to qualify for State. Nathan Ahern qualified for State by placing first in the 800 (2:01.42). The distance medley team (Alex Johnson, Finnegan Donlan, Spencer Kitchen and Ahern) grabbed gold in 3:39.13 to punch their ticket to Des Moines. Crestwood’s sprint medley team of Aidan Skoda, Nate Mahr, Dashel Donlan and Nathan Ahern took fourth (1:36.69) to qualify for State.
Dates and starting times for the Crestwood girls at State are as follows: 100 dash - May 16 at 12:50 p.m.; 1500 meters - May 18 at 2:22 p.m.; 3000 meters - May 16 at 9:40 a.m.; 4x200 relay - May 17 at 11 a.m.; Long jump - May 16 at 11:30 a.m.; Shot put - May 16 at 9 a.m.
Dates and starting times for the Cadet boys include: 800 meters - May 18 at 11:10 a.m.; 100 dash - May 16 at 1:05 p.m.; 200 dash - May 16 at 11 a.m.; Distance medley relay - May 17 at 9:40 a.m; Sprint medley - May 18 at 10 a.m.
