Cadet track teams advance to State Meet in 12 events

OSAGE - Going against several strong teams at the Class 2A State Qualifier Meet on May 11 in Osage, the Crestwood boys’ track team punched its ticket to the State Meet in Des Moines in six events while the Cadet girls’ team qualified in six events.

The Class 2A State Track Meet will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines from May 18-20.

In the boys’ meet, Crestwood senior Maurice Powell finished first in the 100 (11.13) and the 200 (22.86) to advance to State. Senior Zach Mehmert won gold in the shot put event (56 feet, 6.25 inches) to qualify for State. The Cadets also finished second in the 4x100 (44.40) and the 4x200 (1:32.90) to qualify for State. 

Mehmert placed sixth in the shot put at the 2022 State Meet with a throw of 52-7.75. Powell finished 10th in the preliminary races of the 200 at State in 2022 in 23.09.

In the girls’ meet, Crestwood’s 4x200 team placed second in 1:48.67 to advance to the State Meet. The 4x100 team finished third in 52.27 to qualify for State. The sprint medley team placed fourth in 1:54.95 to advance, and the distance medley team took third in 4:26.96 to advance. Kinze Shea qualified for State in the 3000 (third, 11:03.17) and the 1500 (fourth, 5:11.44). Complete results will be in the May 17 issue of the Times Plain Dealer.
