Cadets excel at Drake Relays

CRESCO - Despite the cold and rainy weather, Crestwood junior Ellie Friesen and senior Spencer Cuvelier both competed well at the Drake Relays held in Des Moines April 27 to April 29.

Ellie Friesen placed fourth in the high school girls’ 3000-meter run in a time of 10:08.66 seconds Thursday, April 27. Friesen finished in 10th place in the 800 in 2:19.23 Friday, and she placed third in the 1500 in 4:36.35 Saturday. 

“Ellie was outstanding in all three events,” Cadet Girls’ Coach Jim Obermann said. “She is a talented competitor. This was a great experience for her. She had personal records in the 3000 and 1500.”

Spencer Cuvelier placed 23rd in the boys’ discus event with a toss of 127 feet, 2 inches Friday in Des Moines.

“Spencer wasn’t real happy (with his distance), but it was a good learning experience,” Coach Chris Lentz said. “We know we need to tweak a few things, but competing at Drake will help Spencer at the NEIC meet and the State Qualifying Meet.”
