Crestwood softball team hammers South Winn, Oelwein, Waukon

CRESCO - The Crestwood varsity softball team enjoyed a great week on the diamond last week as the Cadets chalked up five wins to improve to 20-6 overall, including 13-1 and first place in the NEIC.
Solid play on offense, defense and pitching lifted the Cadets to a 5-1 victory over South Winn at home June 20.
Playing a twinbill at Oelwein on June 21, the Cadets easily won both games, 14-10 (three innings) and 10-0 (five innings). Taking on Waukon at home on Friday, June 23, Crestwood crushed the Indians, 10-0, in five innings.
The Cadets will play a doubleheader at Waukon on Thursday, June 29. Crestwood will host North Fayette Valley (15-10) in the first round of the region tournament on July 5 at 7 p.m.
Cadets 5, SW 1
Crestwood pitcher Laken Lienhard tossed seven strong innings, and the Cadet offense performed well during a 5-1 win over South Winn on June 20.
The Cadets took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Kaylee Thomas before they added two more runs in the second. Lienhard ripped a double to drive in Kaylie Henry and Taylar Pecinovsky.
Crestwood added two more insurance runs in the fifth to go ahead 5-1. Shannon Pisney singled to drive in Kelsey Burnikel. Kristen Reicks ripped a single by drive in Pisney.
“Our pitching and defense played really well, and we stepped up with some timely hits,” Cadet Coach Doug Sickles said.
Lienhard notched the win in the pitching circle. She went seven innings, allowed only two hits, one run, no walks and she struck out 13 batters.
At the plate, Lienhard finished with one double and two runs batted in. Kelsey Burnikel had one single and one double. Shannon Pisney had one single and one RBI. Kristen Reicks tallied one single and one RBI. Lauren Reicks had one single. Kaylie Henry and Taylar Pecinovsky each scored one run.

Cadets 14, Oelwein 0 (3 in)
In game one against the Huskies on June 21, the Cadets tallied seven runs in the first and third innings en route to a 14-0 victory.
“In both games against Oelwein, one big key for us was scoring seven runs in the first inning,” Sickles said. “We also hit the ball well from top to bottom.”
Laken Lienhard tallied three hits, including two doubles, had one run and four RBI for the Cadets. Kelsey Burnikel, Karley Freidhof and Kennedy Gaul each scored one run.
Shannon Pisney had one hit, one run and two RBI. Lauren Reicks tallied two hits, including one double, two runs and one RBI. Kaylee Thomas had one hit, two runs and two RBI.
Megan Ryan had one hit, one run and one RBI. Kristen Reicks had two hits, including one double, and one RBI. Annie Mast had two runs, one hit and two RBI. Kaylie Henry scored two runs.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went three innings, allowed only one hit, one walk and struck out three.

In game two, the Cadets raced to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to an impressive 10-0 win in five innings.
Five Cadets tallied at least two hits. Lienhard posted two doubles and one run scored. Lauren Reicks had two hits, two runs and one RBI. Kelsey Burnikel, Ashley Voves and Madison Steffen each scored one run.
Megan Ryan had two hits, including one double, one run and one RBI. Kaylee Thomas had two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Kristen Reicks had one hit and two RBI. Annie Mast had two hits, including one double, one run and three RBI.
Lauren Reicks was the winning pitcher. She went five innings, allowed one hit, no walks and struck out nine.

Playing Waukon at home on Friday, June 23, the Cadets tallied seven runs in the first inning and sailed to a 10-0 win in five innings. Lauren Reicks tossed a no-hitter for Crestwood.
“Lauren pitched very well,” Sickles said. “It’s nice to see her pitch so well during her senior year.”
