CRESCO - During a school board meeting on Jan. 17, the Howard-Winneshiek School District voted 3-2 to ask Crestwood Superintendent Kris Einck to request admission for Crestwood High School to join the Upper Iowa Conference.
Einck noted that moving from the Northeast Iowa Conference to the Upper Iowa Conference is the right move for Crestwood at this time. Einck said he had attempted to recruit other schools to join the NEIC but they had not shown interest. After the 2024 softball and baseball seasons are completed, Waverly-Shell Rock will be leaving the NEIC, which would leave only five schools left in the NEIC.
Cresco High School, which later became Crestwood, was a founding member of the NEIC when it formed in 1920.
Einck said that the next step is for him to send a letter requesting admission to the UIC to the UIC Superintendent (Shane Wahls of Clayton Ridge). Once Einck sends the letter, Wahls will take the letter to other Superintendents in the UIC, who will then take a vote as to whether they will allow Crestwood to join the conference.
Einck expected other Superintendents of the UIC to meet within the upcoming weeks to make a decision.
