No. 7 NFV Tigershawks down Cadet football team in playoffs

WEST UNION - The Class 2A No. 7 North Fayette Valley Tigerhawks raced to a 14-0 lead after one quarter and held the Crestwood football team in check for most of the game as NFV defeated the Cadets, 28-6, in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs on Friday, Nov. 1.
NFV (9-1) will advance to face Spirit Lake (9-1) in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Spirit Lake. The loss ended Crestwood’s season at 4-6 overall.
“North Fayette Valley was able to sustain drives throughout the game,” Cadet Head Coach Justin Denner said. “They were more successful on third downs. We didn’t execute well enough on either side to continue playing (in the playoffs).
“Our guys fought hard and played hard. North Fayette Valley is a darn good football team. We didn’t do enough to win the game. We played as hard as we possibly could,” Denner said.
NFV’s fast start on offense combined with Crestwood’s slow start put the Cadets in a difficult position early on.
“We didn’t get going fast enough on offense, we had two three-and-outs right away and NFV took a 14-0 lead,” Denner said. “We had a good drive in the second quarter, but when push came to shove, we didn’t execute enough to keep drives going and put points on the board.”
