JACKSON JUNCTION - The Turkey Valley football team turned in an outstanding performance on both sides of the ball Friday at home as the Trojans hammered the Cedar Valley Christian Huskies, 72-6, to improve to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in district play.
The win allowed the Trojans to clinch second place in the district and secure a home game in the first round of the Eight-Man playoffs, which begin Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The Trojans had no trouble at all moving the ball Friday against the Huskies as they racked up 340 yards rushing on 42 carries (8.1 yards per carry) and added 98 yards passing by senior quarterback Cody Hackman.
“We executed well,” TV Head Coach Mark Scott said. “We had short fields early in the game to allow us to reach the 35-point running clock in the second quarter.
“Offensively we were able to get several players some time and carries. Defensively we had two fumble recoveries and played downhill the whole game. Next Friday (Oct. 23) we have Central City at home for the final game of the regular season,” Scott said.
The Trojans jumped out to a quick 30-0 lead after one period. Wyatt Blazek reached paydirt on a one-yard run followed by a Cody Hackman run for two points. Walker Leibold nabbed a 50-yard touchdown pass from Hackman, who completed the two-point pass to Blazek. Evan Busta grabbed a 20-yard touchdown pass from Hackman, and Will Einwalter scored on a 21-yad run. Blazek ran the ball in for two points.
TV tallied four more touchdowns in the second quarter to push its lead to 58-0 at halftime. Hackman scored on runs of 35 yards and 12 yards. Braeden Baumler reached paydirt on a two-yard run, and Einwalter scored on a 14-yard scamper.
Turkey Valley scored one touchdown in the third and one in the fourth quarter. In the third, Cale Reicks scored on a six-yard run. In the fourth, William Swestka reached the end zone on a five-yard run, and he also ran the ball in for two points.
Hackman completed three of three pass attempts for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Wyatt Blazek led TV’s ground attack with 83 yards and one score. Will Einwalter was close behind with 80 yards and two touchdowns. Braeden Baumler tallied 68 yards and one score. Cody Hackman posted 47 yards and two scores. Cale Reicks and William Swestka each had one rushing touchdown.
On defense, Evan Busta and Cale Reicks each recorded 5.5 tackles. Wyatt Blazek and Jacob Kuhn each had 4.5 stops. Braeden Baumler had four tackles. Kelby Reicks and Riley Schmitt each had one sack. Baumler and Kuhn each had one fumble recovery.
