CFC to host St. Patty’s 5K Fix

CRESCO - It was a surprise for many when the news came out that the famously attended Brew-n-Stew wasn’t going to be held in Cresco this year for St. Patty’s Day. It left a hole in the hearts of costume aficionados and St. Patty’s die hard runners., For many, the event, was a start to participating in outdoor running events for the year.
No fear, the Cresco Fitness Center is here and has stepped up to the plate.
“We found out there wasn’t going to be a Brew-n-Stew,” said CFC Assistant Manager, Wendy Bohr. “So, we decided to put something together until the Brew-n-Stew returns next year.”
The committee of Bohr, T.J. Casper, Ron Downing, Amanda Stockdale and Laura Hubka came together and came up with the St. Patty’s 5K Fix and Lil’ Shamrocks Sprint.
“We are going to have a costume contest and door prizes,” said Bohr.
The run will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 4 p.m. With the aim to keep things affordable for those participating, the committee set the price at $30.00 per person. Those who registered by March 11 received $15.00 in Cresco Chamber bucks. For anyone registering after March 11, they will receive $5.00 in Chamber bucks. Either way . . . you win.
And if you work at Featherlite, you’re lucky too, because its employees will be able to participate at the courtesy of their employer.
The St. Patty’s 5K Fix is slated to start at the Cresco Fitness Center, head east to the high school, take a shortcut south to Prairie Springs Trail and head east again. It will then head north toward the Webster Addition, doing some meandering along the way, before it finds its way back to the fitness center.
The Lil’ Shamrocks Sprint will be held at 3:30 p.m. and will be a short run around the fitness center. The sprint will be for children ages 12 and under and the event is “free.”
“We really encourage folks to get out and celebrate St. Patty’s Day with us and get that ‘fix’ as the running season takes hold,” said Bohr. “With the run at 4 p.m., it might be a good idea to stay in Cresco, go out for dinner and follow that up with attending the “An Evening of Carol Burnett,” performed by the Cresco Community Theatre, which will be held at 7 p.m. at the Les Fields Scene Shop. You may as well make a day of it.”
