CHESTER - The 1901 building that has housed the Chester Post Office since 1941 is under an emergency suspension according to the United States Postal Service. It was due to building safety and health concerns.
Starting on Saturday, Oct. 5, the office was temporarily located at Lime Springs.
“It is unknown when services will resume at the Chester facility at this time,” the USPS stated. “The Postal Service apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.”
The goal is to open the office again, either at the current location or another location.
