CRESCO - Thanks to a trusty group of volunteers, Cresco Mealsite and Meals-on-Wheels is still available in Cresco. On average, 16 meals are delivered Monday through Friday by members of four Cresco churches—Notre Dame, United Methodist, Immanuel Lutheran and First Lutheran for a month at a time.
The food is brought to Kessel Lodge in the morning and distributed by the volunteers that day. Individuals can also have meals at Kessel. Wednesday is the busiest day, since cards are played afterward.
This is a great service for the area. Children and grandchildren of the elderly can be assured their loved ones are getting a nutritious meal at least once a day during the week.
Bootie Kapler, one of the Notre Dame volunteers, noted, “The meals are well-balanced and have a good variety of food.” She added those who want to eat need to call 563-379-9737 and speak to Patty Scholtes, the Service Specialist, the day before so a meal can be saved for them.
The best part is a person only pays what he or she can afford.
The program is run completely by volunteers under the direction of the Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging.
