CRESCO - Howard County Farm Bureau Outreach Coordinator Rachel Myers presents a new Children’s Story Hour event at Cresco Public Library for three weeks in June.
Children are invited to come to the library to hear farm-theme stories and participate in a craft project Wednesday, June 7, 14 and 28 at 10 a.m. The story hour takes place in the Children's Department of the Cresco Public Library (lower level). No registration is required.
Myers describes the origins of the new story hour event:
“One of the goals of the Howard County Farm Bureau was to increase the reach of our Ag in the Classroom program,” she said. “With the school year winding up, we wanted to reach kids through the summer as well. I met with (Youth Services Librarian) Arla and came up with a game plan. The library does story hour through the school year but due to staffing in the summer, they discontinue it. I thought this would be a great opportunity to continue Ag in the Classroom through the summer months.”
Myers said children can expect a similar experience to the regular Children’s Story Hour offered by Cresco Public Library during the school year:
“Story hour will be similar to that during the school year. I will read a story or two and then we will do an activity or craft that is agricultural based. Topics will include the importance of pollinators and why soil is important. Our plan as of now is to run it Wednesdays in June from 10-11 a.m. except the Wednesday of (the Howard County) fair. If we have good attendance and interest, then we will carry it out in July and August as well with the possibility of additional programming.”
Myers noted she is looking forward to partnering with Cresco Public Library for this new summer story hour.
“Howard County Farm Bureau is excited to work with the Cresco Public Library and its staff. We are excited to continue to grow our Ag in the Classroom program and reach more students,” she said.
