Important dates for general election

HOWArD COUNty - 

Aug. 8, 2022: County Candidate Filing Begins: First day for non-party political organizations candidates and candidates nominated by petition to file nomination papers for county and township offices.

Aug. 30, 2022: First day to submit absentee ballot requests.

Aug. 31, 2022: Filing Deadline-County: Last day to file nomination papers for county offices with the auditor. This includes NPPO candidates, candidates nominated by petition, candidate for non-partisan offices and Democratic and Republican parties’ nominations to fill ballot vacancies. Auditor’s Office must be open until 5 p.m.

Sept. 6, 2022: Withdrawal Deadline-County: Last day for NPPO candidates and candidates nominated by petition who filed with the auditor to withdraw. Notice of withdrawal must be submitted in writing to the auditor. Auditor’s Office must be open until 5 p.m.

Sept. 6, 2022: Objection Deadline-County: Last day to file written objections to nomination papers that were filed with the auditor. Auditor’s Office is open until 5 p.m.

Sept. 22, 2022: Satellite Voting Petition Deadline. Auditor’s Office must be open until 5 p.m.

Oct. 19, 2022: Absentee Ballots Ready: First day absentee ballots may be mailed or voted in the Auditor’s Office for domestic voters. 

Oct. 24, 2022: Voter Pre-Registration Deadline and Worry Free Postmark Date: Mailed Voter registration forms which are postmarked on or before this date are considered on time for the general election. This is the deadline for pre-registration for the general election. Auditor’s Office must be open until 5 p.m.

Oct. 24, 2022: Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed is 5 p.m. 

Nov. 4, 2022: Last Day to Submit Written Challenges to Absentee Voters. Auditor’s Office must be open until 5 p.m.

Nov. 5, 2022: Auditor’s Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for absentee voting and other election business.

Nov. 7, 2022: Absentee Ballot In-Person Deadline: Last day to request and vote an absentee ballot at the Auditor’s Office.

Nov. 8, 2022: General Election Day: Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
