Cresco - National Honor Society members Noel Lloyd and Kayla Hruska organized two different drives to help those less fortunate right before Christmas as a service project. Other members of the society helped them in their endeavors.
Sock Drive
“Last year Mrs. (Trisha) Hartman (sponsor of NHS) asked for ideas for a service project. I looked into doing a sock drive online,” Hruska said.
She had the idea for a little over a year, wanting to implement the drive to coincide with National Sock Day, on Dec. 4.
“Socks are needed in shelters. It is one of the most-needed items. I decided to set up a sock drive and have people wear their craziest socks for school spirit.”
A full box of socks was then taken to Community Action to be distributed among those in need.
Food Drive
Lloyd said of the food drive, “Mrs. Hartman had the idea for collecting items at the girls basketball game on Dec. 11. I had an idea of having a contest for home bases. The winners would get a cookie-decorating party with Mr. (Principal Chris) Rogne and Mr. (Caleb, Dean of Students and Activities Director) Shaeffer.”
The contest ended on Dec. 12, with the winning home base as Mrs. Steffens freshman group. They collected 62 items. The total amount, including from the basketball game, came to 292 items.
Way to show you care, Cadets!
