EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - A beloved soul was lost as Patrick J. McCarthy, 80, of Eden Prairie, Minn., passed away on April 26, 2022 in Naples, Fla. Pat was born on September 27, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Pat was a graduate of Benilde High School in 1959 and the College of St. Thomas in 1963.  After graduating college, he spent two years in the U. S. Navy.
From there, Pat spent two years at Honeywell before moving on to Donaldson Company, where he had spent 32 years until his retirement from illness in 2000 while Director of Filter Manufacturing.  At Donaldson, Pat spent 16 years in Cresco as Plant Manager.
His love of sports took him to all corners of the USA.  He completed 25 marathons and spent many hours on roads training, battling freezing temperatures and occasional dogs in hot pursuit. He was an avid golfer, honing his craft at Cresco Country Club and Minnesota Valley Country Club. Since he was typically the one setting up the games, there was a good chance he would come out on the winning end of any bet.
He had spent 15 years in Arizona and was able to enjoy the scenery of the West, riding many hours on his Honda Goldwing, touring the countryside and mountains of Arizona and California with his sidekick, Rex.
He was a supportive fan of his grandchildren’s activities from golf and swimming to dance.
He was a faithful member of AA for 48 years and helped many people deal with this illness both personally and professionally. For this, he was especially proud.
He was a friend to many, reaching out when people were lonely or in tough times with kindness and support. He will be missed, but his legacy lives on through others.
Pat was preceded in death by parents, Ambrose and Katherine McCarthy; brother Jimmy; nephew, Chris Beckman; and mother and father-in-law, Frank and Jean Wheeler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Kathy (Wheeler); two children, Molly (Steve) Maucieri of West Des Moines, Patrick and partner (James) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Nick Walsh, Rachel and Caroline Maucieri; sister, Mary Ann (Ray) Campbell; nieces Katie (Jim) Sentz and Kayla; nephews, Bryan (Kristi) Campbell and Brody, Charlie, and Teddy; brother in laws, Bud (Patty) Wheeler and Jeff (Patty) Wheeler; sister in law, Sue Wheeler; nephews Eric (Tracey) Beckman and Elise and Grant, Scott (Add) Beckman and Lawen, Travis (Christine) Wheeler and niece, Megan (Aaron) Culig.
Funeral Mass will be held on May 12, 2022 at 10:30 am at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Eden Prairie, Minn. Visitation will be one hour prior. Following the mass, there will be a luncheon at Minnesota Valley Country Club, which is located at 6300 Auto Club Drive, Bloomington, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Courage Center, 3915 Golden Valley Road, Minneapolis, Minn., 55422 or to St. Albert the Great Catholic Church 2836 33rd Avenue, Minneapolis, Minn., 55406.
