CRESCO - On a crisp March morning in Cresco, Iowa, over 60 people participated in the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Plantpeddler Retail Complex.
Founded in retail since 1980, the new facility will allow expansion in floral, gift and garden center product lines.
The primary retail operation will be operating in a 6,000 square foot widespan steel building, with vaulted ceiling, multilevel shopping, central cooler, and efficient floral design space, which is invitingly connected to the greenhouse space.
The greenhouse covers 9000 sq. ft. of gutter connected greenhouses with glass south gable end, to allow maximum curb-appeal. The space is designed with all fixtures movable to allow maximum flexibility in usage, including corporate events.
Ahead of the official groundbreaking, Mike Gooder gave a little talk about the project and honored a few of his staff attending. First off, he opened thanking his wife, Rachel and son, John, in helping the operation grow over the past 45 years, noting that John’s wife, Molly, will also be joining the business.
“It all started 44 years, nine months ago on June 20, 1980 when Rachel and I married,” said Gooder in front of a nice crowd. “Now we’re growing for the future. This is a commitment to Cresco as the city has been here for Plantpeddler since the first day."
