Roadwork being done around Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY - Howard County Engineer Nick Rissman and Iowa DOT Staff Engineer Mary Kelly have reported on area roads and bridges that are being worked on this summer.
Highway 63 north of Highway 9: Kelly said bids are being let in July for maintenance work on Hwy. 63 north of Hwy. 9. That work will likely be done by the end of the year.
Hwy. 63 south of Hwy. 9: Although the road south of Hwy. 9 seems just as bad as it is north, that project won’t be let until October, with work to be done in 2020.
Originally, south of Hwy. 9 was in the July letting, but a couple weeks ago, the DOT pushed several projects back, and this was one of those.
Bridge AF39: Rissman said the bridge on 180th St. over the Wapsi River, northwest of Elma has had the deck poured, but the road needs to be raised nine feet to compensate for a 50-year flood.
Bridge P34: This bridge on 200th St. east of Hwy. 63 could have been finished already this spring, but Rissman said Mother Nature has not been kind.
Bridge AL14: The east bridge at Bigalks will hopefully be worked on this summer. The other bridge is not closed, but it soon could be.
