Cresco - Due to a shooting incident at the trailer court on the west side of South Elm St. in Cresco, Howard-Winneshiek School District cancelled classes and Cresco City Hall is temporarily closed, on Thursday, March 1.
According to backdoor neighbors of the trailer where an incident occurred, Cresco Police, Howard County Sheriff and Mason City SWAT surrounded the trailer in the middle of the night.
Phil Walker stated he had been up since 3 a.m. because of the commotion.
At one point, Andy Cobb heard shots fired. When he opened the door to let his cat outside in the middle of the night, he was told to stay indoors by officers.
At one point, Walker said, “Seven to eight teargas cannisters were shot into the windows.”
How-Winn was going to have a two-hour late start because of the incident, but with the district already having a two-hour early out for the girls basketball semifinals in Des Moines, administration decided to cancel.
There are a lot of rumors floating around. The Times will continue to give updates as it is informed.
