Spotlight on local business—Featherlite

Cresco - Iowa State Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg visited northeast Iowa on March 2 on their 99-county tour for 2018.
The duo toured two plants at Featherlite—Plant 3, which makes the boxes for the trailer, and Interiors, where wiring, lighting, cabinets, seating, etc. is accomplished.
Human Resources Director Tom Wankerl noted, “We shared our success stories. She was generally impressed with some of the things we do. She had no idea the company did such unique workmanship.”
During a roundtable discussion, the governor highlighted some of her new initiatives relating to workforce. Howard County Business & Tourism Director Jason Passmore noted Howard County has a low unemployment rate and needs more workers.
Reynolds stated more needs to be done with getting community colleges to help train workers. Passmore stated NICC-Cresco, along with the other branches, are models for the rest of the state on working together with industry.
Reynolds was impressed with the tour of Featherlite. “Until you see it, you don’t understand what is being produced in Howard County.”
In addition, it was mentioned Howard County was the second in the state to attain a Home Base Iowa status, which encourages veterans to move to Iowa to live in our houses and work at our jobs.
Passmore explained Featherlite was one of the first employers in Howard County to sign up for Home Base Iowa. “They actually reach out and are part of the solution to train our youth.”
