Genealogical Society Seeks Assistance from Community for New Equipment

CRESCO - The Howard-Winneshiek Genealogical Society is in desperate need of funds to purchase a new research computer and ViewScan for their collection housed at the Cresco Public Library. The society is facing a daunting task of raising $9000 in order to continue providing free access to their valuable resources.

   The microfilms contain newspapers from Howard county dating back to the 1800s and continuing to 2025, along with early census and vital records for Howard and Winneshiek counties.

   For many, the Howard-Winneshiek Genealogical Society's 

collection may be unknown or forgotten. However, this collection is an invaluable resource for those looking to research their family history and genealogy so the society is trying to get the word out to the public. With records dating back centuries, the society's collection offers a wealth of information for those looking to learn more about their ancestors and Howard County history.

   The new research computer and ViewScan are essential tools for accessing the microfilms and records housed within the collection. Without these tools, the society's ability to provide free access to their collection would be severely limited.

   The Howard-Winneshiek Genealogical Society is calling on the community for support in raising the necessary funds to purchase these vital resources to forever keep the history of our area both intact and of use for the public.
