Carl J. Decker was born on Oct. 5, 1936 to Louie and Rose (Koester) Decker in Howard County, Iowa. He grew up in the Lime Springs, Iowa area and quit school after eighth grade to farm with his dad. On Oct. 26, 1958, he married Marie Oakland in Austin, Minn. He continued to farm throughout his life in the areas of Tripoli, Alta Vista, Cresco and Jerico. After retiring from farming, he worked for Dale Reicks at Reicks View Farms. He also helped Roger Reicks, who became a close friend who helped him through the loss of his beloved wife, Marie.
He enjoyed playing pool, attending tractor pulls, polka music, gardening and eating homemade ice cream. He had a large collection of Allis Chalmers toy tractors. One of Carl’s greatest joys in life was dancing. He would always say, “I’d rather dance than eat!” He liked traveling with his friend, Roger Reicks. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Lorraine (Larry) Mullen of Charles City, Iowa and their children, Adam Howland of Mason City, Iowa, Jessica (Nikki) Hanke of Ladora, Iowa and Jenifer (Chad) Olsen of Austin, Lynn (Joe) Rose of Cresco and their children, Brandon (Michelle) Sickles of Altona, Manitoba, Canada, Bryan Sickles of Cresco and Kennedy Rose of Cresco; his great-granddaughter, Ava Howland; sisters, Betty Roesler of Lime Springs, Luella (Curt) Postel of Florida and Arlene (Jerry) Sjullie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and brothers, Donald Decker of Texas and Louie (special friend Irma) Decker Jr. of Cedar Rapids.
