LIME SPRINGS - Carol Ann Schmitz, 55, formerly of Lime Springs, passed away on Sunday, July, 2, 2023, in Ames.

Carol was born on February 2, 1968, in Lima, OH, to William and Clarine (Hoffman) Schmitz. After spending her early years in Ohio, they relocated to Lime Springs when Carol was around six years old. She attended school in Cresco before later continuing her education in Decorah. Carol dedicated many years of her life to volunteering for Head Start, and her hard work and commitment were recognized with an award from the Governor. She cherished this achievement deeply.  Carol also worked part-time at the Cresco Shopper folding papers and placing inserts for many years.

During her free time, Carol enjoyed shopping, playing board games, especially her favorite game, The Game of Life, playing cards, participating in BINGO, engaging in arts and crafts, and coloring on her tablet. She had a passion for collecting dolls, stuffed animals, and rocks, which she added to her rock collection. Carol also spent countless years assisting her mother, Clarine, allowing them to stay on the farm together.

Carol was a loving and kind-hearted woman who always wore a sweet smile. She had an incredible memory for faces and held a deep love for her family. Her nieces and nephew held a special place in her heart, and she showered them with affection during every visit, always requiring hugs.

Carol is survived by her siblings: Alan Schmitz of Ankeny; Roger (Joy) Schmitz of Hutchinson, Minn.; John (Amanda) Schmitz of Lime Springs; as well as her nieces Cecilia, Isabelle, Natalie, and nephew Owen.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Carol is scheduled to be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday, July 15 at 11 a.m. in Cresco.  Recitation of the Rosary will be 9:00 a.m. at the church, followed by visitation from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
